The Kelly Clarkson Show dominated the 2026 Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, October 30, claiming five prestigious honors including the coveted outstanding daytime talk series award. The ceremony, held at the Hollywood Palladium for the first time, saw the show lead all nominees despite host Kelly Clarkson losing the individual host award to Sherri Shepherd. The awards haul brings the show’s total to 29 wins over its seven seasons on air, cementing its place as one of daytime television’s most decorated programs. Clarkson herself was notably absent from the ceremony, which celebrated what would become one of the show’s final major awards moments.

The talk show secured five awards at the ceremony, including outstanding daytime talk series, best directing for a daytime studio non-fiction series, outstanding sound mixing and sound editing for a live daytime program, and outstanding art direction/set decoration/scenic design for a daytime program. This year’s wins represent the show’s third-largest haul ever, following seven wins in 2022 and six wins in 2023. The program’s consistent recognition throughout its run demonstrates its sustained excellence in production and entertainment value across multiple technical and creative categories.

Clarkson won outstanding daytime talk series host or one or both primary categories in six of the show’s seven seasons on air. Her Emmy success in television has notably outpaced her music career accolades, with nine total Daytime Emmys in seven years-five in the talk series category and four for talk series host-compared to three Grammys in a recording career spanning more than two decades. This Friday marked a rare defeat for the former American Idol winner, as Sherri Shepherd claimed the hosting prize for her show Sherri.

Brooklyn Incident Had No Impact on Voting

Clarkson recently made headlines for an incident at a curiosity shop in Brooklyn, where she maintained that she was treated poorly during an attempted purchase at Art of Play. The singer claimed on social media that she was looked at “as if I couldn’t afford it” when inquiring about an expensive item, prompting a store employee to offer “something comparable” instead. She compared her experience to how Julia Roberts’ character Vivian in the 1990 movie Pretty Woman is treated by staff at a high-end clothing store, and her post garnered more than 43 million views.

However, this controversy-dubbed “Birdgate” by some observers-had no bearing on the Emmy outcomes. The Daytime Emmy Awards utilize just one round of voting, which determines both the nominations and the eventual winner, and that round closed on June 10, a full four months before the Brooklyn incident occurred. The store claimed in its response that Clarkson had asked about purchasing “Molly,” a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton permanently attached to the wall that isn’t for sale, though Clarkson later posted a photo showing a price tag next to the bird marked at $15,000.

Show’s Final Season and Broadcast Status

The Kelly Clarkson Show recently celebrated its final episode, which premiered in August, though the program will remain eligible for awards next year for its final season. Similarly, Sherri Shepherd’s show Sherri also celebrated its final episode in May, marking the end of two significant daytime talk programs. Both shows helped define the contemporary daytime talk landscape through their combination of celebrity interviews, human interest stories, and the unique personalities of their hosts.

Adam Sharp, President and CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, emphasized the enduring importance of daytime programming in his remarks at the ceremony.

“Tonight, we celebrated the outstanding talent and enduring impact of daytime television,” said Sharp. “For more than 50 years, daytime programming has brought people together through stories that entertain, inform, and inspire, reflecting the world around us and creating lasting connections with audiences across generations.”

Other Notable Winners at the Ceremony

General Hospital and Beyond the Gates followed The Kelly Clarkson Show with four Daytime Emmys each. ABC’s long-running drama General Hospital secured the outstanding daytime drama series prize, while CBS’ Beyond the Gates won outstanding lead performer in a daytime drama series: actress for Tamara Tunie in the show’s debut season. CBS led all networks with 10 wins overall.

Jeff Kober won outstanding guest performance in a daytime drama series for his work on General Hospital, adding to a banner year that also saw him receive a Primetime Emmy nomination for his work on The Pitt. Ray Chew won outstanding music direction and composition for a daytime program for his work on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, with his wife accepting the award as Chew was working on Dancing With the Stars. Chew has also served in music direction roles on American Idol, Saturday Night Live, and multiple major awards shows.

First-Time Winners and Lifetime Achievement

Keke Palmer won her first Daytime Emmy for outstanding daytime short form program as producer of Glam Through the Ages, adding to her two previous Primetime Emmy wins. Tracee Ellis Ross secured outstanding travel and adventure program for Solo Traveling With Tracee Ellis Ross, marking her first Emmy Award of any kind following six Primetime Emmy nominations for ABC’s black-ish. The win represents a milestone achievement that her legendary mother, Diana Ross, has yet to accomplish.

Star Jones claimed her first Daytime Emmy in a 35-year television career, winning outstanding daytime personality-daily for Divorce Court alongside Corey Jova. General Hospital star Genie Francis received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony, presented by her husband Jonathan Frakes, with next February marking the 50th anniversary of her debut on the show. The ceremony underscored the diverse talent and long-standing contributions of performers across daytime television’s many formats.
