Bank of America announced Wednesday the launch of its Critical Infrastructure Finance Initiative, a $250 billion program designed to finance and modernize U.S. infrastructure across multiple sectors. The 18-month initiative will mobilize capital through lending, investments, capital markets and advisory transactions, running from January 2026 through July 4, 2027. The bank positions the effort as a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary while addressing surging demand for computing power, energy capacity and manufacturing infrastructure nationwide. The nation’s second-largest bank by assets structured the initiative to target three broad infrastructure categories. Digital infrastructure projects will encompass data centers, computing hardware, chips, telecommunications equipment and semiconductor facilities. Energy and power infrastructure investments will span conventional and renewable power generation, energy storage systems and distribution networks. Surging demand for computing power, particularly to support artificial intelligence applications, requires expanded data center capacity and semiconductor production. Growing energy consumption from these digital operations necessitates both conventional and renewable power generation expansion. Manufacturing capacity growth and diversified supply chains demand modernized transportation networks and production facilities across the country. Karen Fang, Global Head of Infrastructure & Sustainable Finance and Co-Head of Global Capital Solutions at Bank of America, emphasized the integrated nature of modern infrastructure challenges. The bank plans to deploy capital across increasingly interconnected sectors, delivering projects that require integrated financing solutions spanning both corporate and project-level capital structures. Bank of America will leverage its global capital markets platform, advisory expertise and balance sheet strength to help clients access necessary capital. Job Creation and Economic Impact The initiative aims to generate tens of thousands of jobs across construction, manufacturing, technology and infrastructure operations sectors. Bank of America pointed to its existing commitment to workforce development as complementary to the infrastructure push. In 2025, the bank invested nearly $40 million in more than 730 workforce-development partners across 97 U.S. markets. Those organizations estimate the funding helped connect more than 90,000 people with employment opportunities and provided more than 290,000 people with access to training, education and career development resources. The financial activity supporting the $250 billion initiative will include primary market lending, direct investing, capital markets transactions, banking services and advisory solutions.
