Ryan Reynolds tries to convince Gareth Bale to play for Wrexham

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have tried to coax Gareth Bale out of retirement.

Former Wales captain Bale announced his retirement from professional football in January.

He was playing for Los Angeles FC at the time of his retirement and previous clubs include Real Madrid, Tottenham and Southampton.

The North Wales-based club gained promotion into the Football League for the first time in 15 years on Saturday after beating Boreham Wood 3-1.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creator Rob McElhenney shared a video from Bale congratulating the club on Twitter.

“Hi Rob, just want to congratulate you on your promotion and everything you’re doing at Wrexham,” Bale said.

McElhenney tweeted the video with the caption “Hey [Gareth Bale] let’s play golf, where I totally won’t spend 4 hours trying to convince you to un-retire for one last magical season”.

Bale replied “Depends what course…” before Reynolds added he would “shave a professional-grade golf course into Rob’s back if you’ll give Wrexham a season”.

Wrexham Mayor Cllr Brian Cameron said after the win that the club’s future was a “bright” one.

“You brought the entire community of our city together as one, created memories that will last a lifetime for all those in attendance and given the youth of Wrexham excellent inspiration and the lesson of never giving up,” he said in a letter to the club.
